What are Product Identifiers (PIDs), and when do I need to use them?

Answer from EUCBT Editors · reviewed

Product identifiers (PIDs) are codes that help EU customs identify the goods in a low-value consignment. The tracker lists three kinds: M-PID, NS-PID, and S-PID where one exists.

  • 1 July to 31 October 2026: PIDs could be provided voluntarily, with no penalties.
  • From 1 November 2026: PIDs are mandatory for distance-sale consignments up to €150.

FedEx reports an informal transition approach until early 2027, but we have not confirmed this in Commission guidance, so plan to comply from 1 November. Ask your carrier exactly which PID data they need from you and in what format.
