FedEx mentions an ‘informal PID transition’ until early 2027. What does this mean, and can I rely on it?

Asked by EUCBT Editors (common question) · October 30, 2026

I saw a note from FedEx saying PID requirements won’t be strictly enforced for a while. Should I delay getting PIDs?

Answer from EUCBT Editors · reviewed

FedEx has reported an informal transition approach for Product Identifier (PID) enforcement until early 2027. However, our tracker notes that we have not confirmed this in official Commission guidance. The official rule is that PIDs (M-PID, NS-PID, S-PID) become mandatory for consignments up to €150 from 1 November 2026. Relying on an unconfirmed, carrier-specific ‘informal’ policy is risky. Other carriers may enforce the rules strictly, and the leniency could end abruptly. Our strong advice is to comply with the official mandatory date of 1 November 2026 to avoid disruptions.
