Are customs warehouses for distance sales available to use now?

Asked by EUCBT Editors (common question) · October 30, 2026

I’ve heard storing goods in the EU before sale might reduce fees. Is this an option currently?

Answer from EUCBT Editors · reviewed

No, this option is not yet available. According to the verified tracker, customs warehouses for distance sales are planned to become available from 1 July 2028. The Commission guidance states that a lower handling fee will apply to goods sold from these warehouses, but the exact amount has not been published. Until this system is launched, you cannot use this specific customs warehousing procedure for e-commerce. For current EU storage options, you should consult a customs broker.
