Can I split one order into several smaller parcels to reduce the new EU fees?

Asked by EUCBT Editors (common question) · October 30, 2026

I sell low-value items and the new €3 duty and €2 fee per item seem high. I’m wondering if sending items separately would help.

We don’t advise splitting orders to try and avoid fees. The new €3 customs duty (from 1 July 2026) and the €2 Union handling fee (from 1 November 2026) are charged per item, per declaration line. If your order has three items, sending them in one parcel or three separate parcels will likely result in three declaration lines and three sets of fees. Splitting shipments can also increase your shipping costs and complicate tracking. Always check the specific rules with your carrier or a customs broker for your situation.
