What does the new EU Customs Authority in Lille mean for small non-EU sellers?

Asked by EUCBT Editors (common question) · October 30, 2026

Answer from EUCBT Editors · reviewed

The EU Customs Authority (EUCA) was created by the customs reform adopted on 16 September 2026 (Regulation (EU) 2026/2108). It is planned to be based in Lille, with some activities starting in 2027.

For small non-EU sellers the effect is indirect: you will not deal with the EUCA yourself, but it is part of the wider reform that also brings the EU Customs Data Hub, which becomes mandatory for e-commerce from 1 July 2028.

Nothing changes in your day-to-day shipping because of the EUCA today. Keep an eye on our EU rule tracker for dates as the reform rolls out.
