What happens to the flat €3 duty on 1 July 2028?

Asked by EUCBT Editors (common question) · October 30, 2026

Is this a permanent change or just temporary?

Answer from EUCBT Editors · reviewed

The flat €3 duty is scheduled to end on 1 July 2028. According to the tracker, this is a temporary measure. After this date, normal duty rates based on the product type will apply to distance sales of any value.

However, a Council document notes that this end date may be extended if the new EU Customs Data Hub is not ready. You should monitor official updates as 2028 approaches to confirm the final changeover.
